A Bruce County paramedic is going to spend the next couple of months
focusing on a different type of health care.
Tobermory’s Tayla Malott is in Africa with her friend Julia Dean.
The two girls are traveling to Ghana to volunteer in a hospital.
Malott says she will assist doctors with duties like weighing patients and
giving immunizations.
In addition to her work at the hospital, Malott will be traveling to outer
communities to deliver education about H.I.V.
Malott says this type of volunteering is a priority she set for herself, and
she says it won’t be the last time she goes.
She says she has volunteered in the past in Guyana, South America.
Malott says as Canadians, many of us don’t realize how good our quality of
life is.
Both Malott and Dean need to raise about $6,000 each to fund
their two-month stay.
Malott says they haven’t reached their totals and they are still hoping for
donations.
In addition, Malott says donations of items they can take with them and give
away are also very welcome.
People wishing to donate can call1-888-649-3788 and speak to representatives
of Volunteer Abroad.
