It’s a big honour for one member of the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club.
Gary Levine has been acclaimed as Governor-Elect for the entire Eastern Canada and Caribbean District.
Levine says this allows him to stand as the sole candidate for the position of Governor in 2009.
He’s only the second person from Grey, Bruce, or Simcoe counties to ever receive this distinction.
Forty years ago, Ray Allen from Owen Sound achieved the same position.
Levine says his administrative responsibilities will increase, as he’ll have to look after the entire district, which includes almostĀ 9,000 volunteers.
Levine says it’s also the most diverse region of the Kiwanis club, made up of 18 countries.
He says most of his focus will be on motivating and inspiring the volunteers to continue doing the great work they do.
Levine says he’s been volunteering with the Kiwanis Club since he was a kid, when he’d go out with his dad in Winnipeg and help out with fundraisers.
He says it’s the tangible results, like the smile on the kids’ faces when they use the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound, that keep him motivated to do what he does.
