Some local organizations are benefiting from provincial funding.
The Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum has received 15 thousand dollars for upgrades to their lighting and electrical systems.
Museum Manager Mary Smith says the funding is wonderful news because when you first walked into the museum you could hardly see the artifacts and displays.
Smith says the work has already been completed and the lighting has made a huge difference.
Prior to the grant, the electrical wiring in the museum building did not meet the requirements of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
The Owen Sound office of the St. John Ambulance has been awarded 21 thousand 700 dollars to set up the office as a satellite training centre for the South Grey Bruce Branch.
The OTF Grant will help hire a training coordinator who will continue to provide training sessions in Owen Sound and surrounding area during the transition of the Owen Sound location from a self-administered to a satellite training centre of the South Grey Bruce Branch.
If the location was not maintained, Owen Sound residents would have to travel to Hanover for their first aid training needs.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch says the St. John Ambulance is in need of the funding as it is a vital part for the region.
Murdoch says provincial funding is always great news because certain groups can’t pay for everything and fundraising doesn’t always work out.
