Its opening weekend of the CNE in Toronto and several local fair ambassadors will be heading down there.
There are about a half dozen local girls, ranging in age from 18 to 25, competing to become this year’s CNE Ambassador of the Fairs.
The young people represent communities throughout our region including Dundalk, Hanover, Markdale, Paisley, and Tara.
The contestants are judged on their agricultural knowledge as well as their demeanour and prepared speeches.
CNE General Manager David Bednar says they’re up against 80 other contestants representing every corner of Ontario.
He says they’ve had as many as 1,300 young people competing over the years from more than a hundred different communities.
The finals go Sunday.
