With the recent loss of physiotherapy services at the Kincardine hospital, council is exploring options to sustain the site.
Councillor Ron Hewitt put the motion to council last night because of what he calls the erosion of local services at the Kincardine site of the South Bruce-Grey Health Centre.
Hewitt brought Ian Mitchell, who has worked in hospital administration for over 30 years, to speak about why council needs to get involved in the issue.
Hewitt says the hospital has lost too many services over the years, and he doesn’t want to sit around and wait for the next cut.
He says it’s never too late to do something until the hospital closes, and that’s something he doesn’t want to see.
Council has decided to put together a meeting with representatives from Huron-Kinloss Council, the Kincardine Hospital Foundation, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre Board, and doctors from the hospital.
It was also recommended representatives from the Local Health Integration Network and the Ministry of Health be there.
Hewitt says they need to find the right option for the hospital to operate with full services, and not become a designated first-aid site.
He adds one option is demalgamation, but says he doesn’t think council should head blindly down that path, and that’s why they’ll hold the meeting.
Hewitt says he’ll plan out an agenda and hopes to hold the meeting sometime in late September.
