While construction on the North end of Port Elgin is nearing completion, plans are underway to work on the South end.
Saugeen Shores Director of Engineering Dave Burnside says they will build a signalized intersection at Goderich and Lake Ridge in front of the site of the new Wal-Mart.
He says the intersection will be the main entrance to Wal-Mart and will widen Goderich Street to accommodate a left turn lane.
Council gave the contract for the work to Harold Sutherland Construction Limited for 491 thousand dollars.
Burnside says originally no tenders were submitted at the deadline and it would have opened it up for negotiations.
He says the contractor made an error and delivered the tender to the wrong address.
But he says the contractor will honour the price quoted in their tender.
Burnside says most of the cost will be paid by the developers and the Town will cover 30 thousand dollars for sidewalks leading up to the intersection.
He says work will start after Labour Day and expects to be completed by November 15th.
