One Kincardine Councillor wants his Council to take a stand on the recent cuts at the hospital.
Ron Hewitt announced during last night’s meeting that he will bring a motion forward at next week’s meeting to have a special meeting with stakeholders to discuss the future of the hospital.
Hewitt says the doctors can’t fight every fight adding it is about time that Council woke up and supported their hospital.
He says there seems to be a different service going from their hospital to another hospital or a privately-operated facility.
Hewitt says the special meeting would discuss what options the Municipality has to save the hospital including de-malgamating from the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
He wonders why one-hospital boards in Goderich and Hanover are able to manage their budgets while amalgamated ones like the South Bruce Grey Health Centre are having trouble with theirs.
Doctor Lisa Roth, Isabel Jones Sylvia Stepnow, and Patt Lowry came to last night’s meeting as a delegation asking Council to do something about the loss of physiotherapy and other services that maybe coming their way.
Doctor Roth says a meeting with all stakeholders is good way to rebuild the communication lines.
She says when the doctors came to a hospital sub-committee meeting last Thursday the committee made a comment about how the lines of communication is breaking down.
Doctor Roth reiterated her comments that the elimination of OHIP-covered physiotherapy at the Kincardine Hospital is a short-sighted decision by the SBGHC Board.
She says doctors should be consulted if any cuts to services is being considered.
She says cutting physiotherapy services will end up costing the hospital more money setting up further cuts down the road.
