Director of the Owen Sound Transportation company, Susan Schrempf says ridership is off by 8-9% this year and they are facing up to a 1.8 million dollar shortfall in revenue.
Schrempf says Queens Park will pick up 800 thousand dollars of that shortfall but the company must find ways to eliminate the rest.
Right now, a 1-way fare for a car with two people in it is 60 dollars and 55 centsĀ but that will go to 66 dollars and 60 cents this Friday.
Schrempf says the fare increase will not off-set the huge increase in fuel costs this year and they will review everything this fall as part of the business planning process.
She says you may see the Chi-Cheemaun operating differently next year with different times for the ferry runs and other changes to attract more revenue.
Some Fares remain unchanged as of Friday including the Priority Passage booking fee of 20 dollars per vehicle and Dinner cruise tickets at $46.95 per person.
