Resident Abby Bolton, who spearheaded the project, says the fencing is in at the former Port Elgin landfill site and an official opening is set for 11am Saturday.
Bolton says all dog owners are invited out to the special opening and there will be cake and refreshments.
Mind you, the goodies will have to be consumed outside the park since one of the rules of the area is no food or drink inside the park.
Bolton suggests visitors on Saturday bring water for their dogs since they do not have the capability yet to provide water through a fountain.
She says they have the fountain purchased but they still need the water mains hooked up.
The 15-acre dog park cost $44,000 to create with most of the money coming from donations and fundraising.
Bolton says the town has made parking available on the east side of Lehnen Street and signs will be clearly posted to inform dog owners where they can and can’t park their vehicles.
John Divinski of 98 the Beach will act as master of ceremonies at the opening on Saturday.
