The Deputy Police Chief in Owen Sound says the City’s streets are safe.
Bill Sornberger tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the stabbing that left a 42 year old man with serious injuries is an “isolated incident.”
The 42 year old man remains in serious but stable condition in Owen Sound after being stabbed in the chest in the downtown core late Tuesday night.
19 year old Shawn Dyer has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon — he will appear in bail court today.
Police say more arrests are possible.
Members of the City’s fire department jumped into the harbour last night to look for evidence — including the weapon and a blunt piece of wood used in the attack.
Sornberger says it’s tragic incident as the victim was mistaken for someone else and attacked by a woman and a group of men.
Sornberger feels they are on top of the case as they called in 11 officers right away and had a suspect arrested within six hours.
Sornberger also feels they are doing a good job on the streets of Owen Sound.
He points to the officers who patrol on foot and bike.
Sornberger also points out the majority of police calls are for other areas of the City and not the downtown core — so people should feel safe downtown.
