Owen Sound’s BMX Park is re-opened after weeks of construction and repairs.
Owen Sound council has re-opened the BMX Park.
It officially re-opened yesterday after weeks of construction and repairs.
City council decided to temporarily close the park in mid-June, and invested $12,000 to $15,000 to ensure the safety of the park.
Council felt the park would become a liability, and origianlly considered completely closing it which was met with much opposition from local youth.
Owen Sound Resident, Connor MacLeod-Farley has been very active in getting the park reopened.
The 15-year-old St. Mary’s Student has created a petition and a Facebook group to keep the park open, and has collected 175 signatures so far.
MacLeod-Farley says he’s very grateful for council’s support.
He believes it’s important for the youth in our area to have a space such as this, as more kids are participating in alternative sports.
In time, he hopes the park will bring in more skilled bikers from the area for workshops and sessions.
The park, which is located by the Bayshore Community Centre is now equipped with jumps, a track and rubber bumpers.
