With Fire Chief Bruce Fenton still dealing with health issues, Saugeen Shores is naming an acting Fire Chief in his place.
Deputy Fire Chief Phil Eagleson will now assume that role after Council passed a by-law at last night’s Council meeting.
Mayor Mike Smith says naming Eagleson to the position was a no-brainer.
He says Eagleson is doing a great job in place of Fenton.
Smith says Fenton recommended Eagleson when it was learned that Fenton had to take a leave.
He says Eagleson has the support of the fireman and staff to do the job.
As for Fenton, he was at the meeting but respectfully declined to talk about Eagleson’s appointment or his battle with cancer with Bayshore Broadcasting News.
Smith says while Fenton looks healthy he is still going through some treatments and wishes him the best in his recovery.
Fenton left his post back in January to undergo treatments.
