Its part of the McGuinty government’s Poverty Reduction Plan to hold sessions across the province before tabling a report by the end of the year.
Organizer Lynda Aldrige says they’re looking to hear from anyone struggling to make ends meet; low income working families, single parents, seniors and those on social assistance or living with a disability.
She says the information will be forwarded directly to Deb Mathews, the ‘Minister of Children and Youth Services’ and ‘Women’s Issues’.
In the Owen Sound area the meeting is being facilitated by the United Way along with the Grey Bruce Community Legal Clinic, the Grey Bruce Labour Council and SHARE.
In other communities the sessions have been hosted by the local MPP however Bruce Grey Owen Sound member Bill Murdoch says he’s not part of the McGuinty Liberals and isn’t mandated to hold the meetings.
He says the province-wide sessions are just another way for Premier Dalton McGuinty to prolong the issue until he can make new promises in the next election.
Murdoch has been invited to tonight’s session but says he has other commitments.
The meeting is being held at 6:30 at Twin Pines Apartments on 4th Street A East close to the Alliance Church.
