On Soundingboard last week Councillor Mark Wunderlich says he plans to bring up the issue again at tonight’s council meeting.
At a Committee of the Whole meeting last week, Sauble Beach business owners jammed council chambers in Wiarton wanting to be heard on the new $10 flat rate parking levy along the beach had their say with little discussion from councillors.
Wunderlich says he expects his minutes will show that the parking remain status quo.
He plans to ask those minutes be pulled out so he can present a new motion.
Wunderlich says he’s going to ask that for the remainder of the summer, they return to the two-dollar-an-hour charge for the parking to help tourism.
Business owners in Sauble Beach say they have seen a significant drop in their business which they partially blame on the $10 parking charge.
Councillor Wunderlich says if the community doesn’t have a good summer then it could affect the services available for those who stay year round.
He suggests that year long grocery stores and pharmacies won’t stay open without a busy summer season and that could be a real problem for year long seniors in the area.
Tonight’s council meeting gets underway in Wiarton at 7pm and is open to the public.
