Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce is teaming up with the the Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The partnership is an effort to encourage the public to report unlawful activities by boaters and fisherman on our local waterways.
Grey County OPP Constable Drew Wilder says the OPP and MNR have been provided with Fox 40 Whistles to hand out to boaters.
Wilder says they will be stopping boaters to make sure they are in full compliance with the water regulations and also give them a whistle which has the Crime Stoppers number on it.
Wilder says the OPP and MNR have many vessels on the water but they can’t always be everywhere so this partnership will allow any boaters who see anyone committing violations on lakes, rivers or bays to call Crime Stoppers and report it.
Dave Wells is the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce.
Wells says this partnership is important because it now provides another set of eyes on the water.
