Looking to pull the plug on false alarms in Walkerton but Brockton Council deferred a by-law until they have consulted with other fire departments.
Brockton Council had a by-law on the table last night that would define what a false alarm is and set fines for such offenses.
But Deputy Mayor Roland Anstett says that decision has been deferred until the Walkerton Fire Committee is able to discuss the issue with fire departments in neighbouring communities.
The proposed by-law would only apply to the Walkerton Fire Department and affect only the Walkerton area.
Anstett says they will be speaking with West Grey, Elmwood, and Paisley Fire Departments on the false alarm by-law.
Anstett says the Walkerton Fire Department has seen a number of false alarms occur in the community.
He says they would like to try and nip it in the butt before it becomes a big issue.
Anstett says the first offense will see a copy of the by-law given to the offender, a verbal warning is given for a second offense, third offense sees a written warning, and any subsequent offense after that will result in a 350 dollar fine.
