Ontario Provincial Police are warning about a new scam for people who shop and sell online on popular websites like Ebay and KiJiJi.
Constable Glen Childerley says they have received numerous complaints from victims who have lost money through the websites — some for more than a thousand dollars.
The scam occurs when you sell a product online — and the buyer overpays for it with a bank draft.
When contacted by the seller, Police say the buyer just asks the difference be wired to them.
But the OPP say the bank draft turns out to be fraudulent — and the seller is on the hook for difference.
Childerley says you need to make sure the people you are dealing with online and it may be necessary to follow-up any sale with a phone call.
