The issue of paid parking at Sauble Beach a lot like getting sand kicked in your face, a lot of people don’t like it.
Callers to the Beach newsroom overwhelmingly opposed to the $10 flat rate to park at the beach this summer and many say the rate should be reduced or even eliminated.
They were responding to a petition being circulated by Sauble Beach business people calling for a reduction in the rate saying its driving tourists away and hurting their businesses.
That same view was shared by a majority of callers who vow never to go to the beach again because of the high parking fee.
One caller stated he and his friends used to go to the beach several times a week but because of the $10 fee, he has not been once this year.
Another person, a small business operator says the parking fee has had a direct negative impact on her business as there are just not as many customers.
Another caller, a South Bruce Peninsula resident says he is paying more than $6,000 in taxes, and does not see why he should have to pay $10 take his grandchildren to the beach for a few hours.
The whole issue will come before South Bruce Peninsula Council Monday morning when the Sauble Business people present their petition to the councillors.
