One of the new practices at schools in Bruce Grey this year were lockdowns.
The Ministry of Education now mandates schools do at least two lockdown drills a year in the event of a dangerous situation.
Both the Bluewater public and Bruce Grey seperate school boards report they made good progess in their drills this year.
St. Anthony’s elementary school in Kincardine performed 3 lockdown drills.
Principal Ed Goetz says they performed 2 announced drills and one unannounced drill to fully see their procedure in practice.
Goetz notes South Bruce OPP were pleased with the drills and offered a few minor tweaks.
There was one real time lockdown in Owen Sound this year when Grey County OPP kept students and staff inside St. Basil’s school while looking for a suspect.
