Georgian Bluffs Council had a special visitor to their meeting.
Grey County OPP Detachement Commander Mark Van Landuyt attended last night’s meeting to give a report about the OPP’s service in the township in 2007.
Van Landuyt says it’s very important to meet with all the communities in Grey County because they are our clients and says it’s always important to have a positive, open and honest relationship.
The report shows Grey County OPP received a total of 2 thousand 90 calls for service in 2007 in Georgian Bluffs which is an increase of more than 400 from 2006.
The township also saw an increase of motor vehicle collisions from 2006 to 2007 in the township with 251 in 2007 and 229 in 2006.
Van Landuyt says highway safety is always a main focus for the OPP but with the County being so close to cities like Toronto and Hamilton he says we are a prime location for marijuana grow-operations
Van Landuyt says the grow-ops is a problem in the County and is an area he would like to see the OPP improve on.
Georgian Bluffs and Grey County OPP’s contract ended at the end of 2007.
Van Landuyt says he hopes talks will go smoothly and says from talking to council they are happy with their service.
Van Landuyt adds with the increase in costs for gas and salaries including other factories, he believes the contract will increase in cost but says they will do their best to keep the increase at a minimal.
