Petro Canada is answering the call from Owen Sound Council.
The company will be cleaning up the former Petro site at 10th Street East and 3rd Avenue East which closed in October last year.
Council for many months have voiced their displeasure with the appearance of the site.
Mayor Ruth Lovell says the site is located in the city’s downtown core and was an eye sore with the windows boarded up, red paint that has faded to pink plus a metal fence surrounding the site.
Lovell says last month in frustration she called Petro Canada and spoke to Fred Scharf the Vice President of Sales, Services and Operations.
Lovell says yesterday she received a letter from Scharf stating they will clean up the site.
Lovell says Petro Canada was close to selling the site just after it closed but the deal fell through.
Lovell says Petro Canada neglected the property when the deal fell through but they have apologized for it and hope to have it cleaned up within the next couple of weeks.
