Bruce County is getting six more defibrillators.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario has approved funding for public access defibrillators to be installed in five county harbours and in the agricultural building in Walkerton.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Community Mission Specialist Christine Lyszczarz says this announcement is part of a second round of funding provided by the provincial government to the Foundation.
Lyzczarz says in March of 2007 the provincial government provided a $3 million grant to the Foundation to distribute the life saving devices throughout Ontario.
Lyzczarz says the Foundation teamed up with the EMS in each county in the province to determine the location of the defibrillators.
Lyzczarz says the Bruce County Director of EMS Doug Smith is the one who came forward with this recommendation in getting defibrillators in these public areas.
Defibrillators will be installed in harbour offices at Kincardine, Port Elgin, Southampton, Tobermory and Lion’s Head.
The cost of the machines is $4,000 and includes $1,500 for training six to eight people at each site.
Bruce County now has a total of 32 public access defibrillators.
