The Sifto Salt Mine in Goderich is recalling some previously laid-off workers, thanks to intense winter weather across North America.
Eighty workers were laid off early in 2010 and about 65 have been called back to the mines.
A member of the union which represents Sifto workers told the London Free Press that they’ve been much busier this year already.
James Vance says the snowfall in Huron County over the past month and all throughout the province has helped them quite a bit.
Sifto is winding down construction on new storage facilities and an enhanced system to get salt to the surface.
The improvements cost about 75 million dollars and makes Goderich the largest salt mine in the world for capacity — hauling nine million tonnes of salt to the surface.
