In the interest of student safety — Hanover is implementing some changes around Hanover Heights and Holy Family schools.
At Hanover Heights, parking will now be banned infront of the school on the north side of 13th Street from 7th Avenue to 13th Avenue.
13th Street is heavily congested with traffic each morning and afternoon as parents drop off and pick up their youngsters.
The town is also requesting an increased police presence along the road before and after school.
Mayor Kathi Maskell hopes these measures will help improve traffic flow problems and make the streets safer for kids.
The principal of Hanover Heights had originally requested a set of flashing lights, but Council wanted to try something else before paying 50 thousand dollars for lights.
Another suggestion by a councillor for rumble strips was also shot down due to the noise factor it would create in a residential area.
As for Holy Family School, a four way stop will be implemented at the 10th Avenue and 6th Street intersection.
Maskell says the most important thing we can do is slow down around school zones.
She says too many people whip by putting little ones at risk.
