The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board wants to help take some of the sting out of post secondary education costs.
The Board will hand out 37 thousand dollars in scholarship and bursary dollars this Spring to Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s high school graduates.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says students have an excellent chance of qualifying for some funding since there are only two schools involved.
She adds the scholarship dollars are not just for those with high academics.
There are also bursaries available for students with financial needs, those who have exemplified good character or stewardship as well as those entering a specific type of post secondary program
Colton says students should investigate their options now so they are ready to apply for the scholarship and bursaries dollars this Spring.
The Catholic Board’s Scholarship Trust Fund is just over a million dollars.
Colton says the Trust Fund has come along way since its humble beginnings in 1979 when it started with just 65 thousand dollars.
In order to keep the scholarship funds perpetual, the school board reinvests a portion of the interest from this money each year.
This year the School Board will reinvest 51 thousand dollars.
