Brockton is moving from a weekly to a seasonal biweekly garbage pick up system.
Councillor Charlie Reidl (Rye-dle) says this means garbage collection will take place every other week during the cooler seasons.
The move will save the municipality about 15 thousand dollars a year.
But more importantly, Reidl says the seasonal bi-weekly pick up will better reflect the needs of Brockton residents.
Thanks to the clear bag garbage system and increased recycling and composting efforts — Reidl says many residents don’t require weekly garbage pick up.
Once the summer hits and things begin to heat up, the municipality will return to weekly garbage pick up.
Reidl believes most residents will like the new change.
Reidl suspects the seasonal biweekly pick up will also encourage more residents to compost.
Brockton has just signed a four year, 232 thousand dollar garbage collection agreement with Bruce Service Sales and Rentals.
