The City of Owen Sound has closed the pedestrian tunnel under 8th Street East – located just east of 5th Avenue East.
A review and assessment by a structural engineer recommends closure of the structure until it can be repaired, replaced, or removed.
The tunnel is closed for public safety reasons.
The closure of the tunnel does not impact the structure of the underground utilities or roadway above it – traffic and other uses of 8th Street East will continue as usual.
Signs and barriers are in place to prevent access to the pedestrian tunnel.
