Wightman Telecom has just purchased a 1.5 acre lot in Hanover’s Business Park.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says the land will be used to house a fibre optic central distribution facility and future growth plans.
Wightman is in the process of bringing fibre optics to Hanover.
The installation will begin in 2011, and will take about two years to complete.
Maskell says the fibre optic central distribution facility will create new jobs.
20 employees will be stationed at the Hanover facility — the majority of staff members will be new employees.
Maskell calls this a wonderful opportunity for young people interested in a career in the technology field.
It’s going to be a few years before the fibre optic distribution facility will be up and running.
In the meantime Wightman will be setting up shop at a temporary location in the former Movie Gallery store at the east end of Hanover.
