The rental agreement between the municipality of Kincardine and the Lake Huron Learning Collaborative is back on the table after hitting a dead end in September.
Recently at Kincardine council — Mayor Larry Kraemer left his chair to make a presentation on the agreement which he says will put 50 thousand dollars of new money into the coffers if approved.
Kraemer says 25 thousand dollars will be the rent money for the former Westario building and another 25 thiousand will be spent on utility costs.
Because the building becomes an educational institution, the municipality has to pay the taxes of up to an estimated 35 thousand dollars — but Kraemer believes the centre, being non-profit will be able to recoup 40% of that cost.
Meanwhile, Councillor Mike Leggett who was one of the councillors negotiating with the collaborative wonders what happened to the deal that called for increased rent for increase space.
Kraemer said the school, along with backer Ontario Power Generation, couldn’t afford the increase.
That’s why he is presenting the original plan for approval.
Councillors agreed that a written lease should be drawn up for further discussion and perhaps approval for the December 15th meeting.
The collaborative, when in full operation, would offer courses from higher learning institutions such as Georgian College in Owen Sound and Western University in London.
