There’s another phone scam going around Grey-Bruce — this time it’s using Bruce Telecom as it’s front.
Bruce Telecom has received about a dozen calls from customers complaining about the phone scam.
Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Service Ray Majury says it’s basically a phishing scam, where people are being called and offered a free home alarm service.
The callers are trying to find out when the customer will be home.
Majury says the red flag is that Bruce Telecom isn’t in the alarm business.
He says it’s a concern that somebody is using the company name in order to determine when people will be out of their houses.
Majury adds this isn’t something new for Bruce Telecom to deal with – – he says a similar scam took place about a year ago using the company’s name.
The advice for customers who receive a call like this is to contact police.
Majury says if the calls become repeated, you can contact Bruce Telecom and they can help you initiate a call trace.
Overall, Majury says if somebody’s calling you with an offer that sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
