Christmas has come early for the Big Brothers and Sisters of Hanover as the agency will be able to keep its doors open.
Executive Director Chantal La Duke is calling it a Christmas miracle.
After nearly closing their doors for good — the Big Brothers and Sisters office will remain open.
The organization announced a 24 thousand dollar deficit in the fall — but now has raised over 30 thousand dollars in its fundraising campaign.
La Duke says she is overwhelmed by the community support.
La Duke tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have also created a strategic plan that will involve new partnerships.
The biggest partner is Crabby Joe’s Tap and Grill in Hanover and Port Elgin.
All fundraising efforts through the restaurants will be directed to Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Hanover and District.
Other partners include Bayshore Broadcasting — which will provide promotional support for fundraising events and help raise awareness and recruit volunteers.
The Investor’s Group and local Mac’s stories are also partners.
La Duke says rather than just have one or two fundraisers a year — the agency will now have a fundraiser once a month.
The slate of proposed events for 2011 include a curling bonspiel, garden tour, a cash calendar, mini golf tournament and a walk to send kids to camp.
La Duke is sure the new approach will ensure the agency never comes close to closing their doors again.
La Duke is also optimistic they can raise the remaining 8 thousand dollars needed to reach their 38 thousand dollar fundraising goal.
The Big Brothers and Sisters of Hanover are still selling tickets for their New Years Eve Gala.
Currently there are 108 children that are served by the agency, and 14 little ones still waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
