‘Tis the season to give — the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation’s fundraising campaign is once again in full swing.
The Christmas Angel campaign is raising money to help purchase new equipment for the Owen Sound hospital.
Executive Director Paul Weitendorf says their goal is to raise 350 thousand dollars this year.
Willard VanderPloeg — a development officer for the Foundation — says people can donate by responding to the Angels they receive in the mail.
He says the angels can be returned to the hospital with your donation and personal message which will all be recorded in an honour roll book.
VanderPloeg also says the Angels will re-appear on poinsettia trees in the Hospital and Heritage Place Mall.
Weitendorf says the hospital has reached a point where it depends on the community’s contributions to keep its equipment up to date.
He says this year — the money will go towards helping to buy ECG equipment and heating and cooling systems to control body temperatures.
Also on the list of items to purchase are 60 wheelchairs, operating room lights, nurse call systems and a spirometer for respiratory therapy.
Weitendorf says patients with heart problems, strokes, cancer, cataract, knee or hip replacements and electro surgery will benefit from the updates.
Anne Robertson is the Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Electro-diagnostic Services a the Owen Sound hospital.
She says the new equipment attracts physicians, speeds up diagnostics and saves patients from travelling to another hospital.
