The rumour mill is circulating at Bruce Power in Tiverton.
The latest is that some workers who expressed concerns about alpha decontamination recently have been laid off or even fired.
Bruce Power Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont says it’s simply not true.
Lamont says no worker would ever face lay off or dismissal for raising a safety concern.
He explains that some boilermakers were concerned about the alpha issue at the Unit 1 refurbishment project.
When the company was informed the work was shut down until the workers were satisfied there was not a problem.
Those workers are now back on the job.
But Lamont says there might be confusion about the tradespeople that are leaving because their work is done on site.
Alpha radiation became an issue the first time around in November, 2009 when radiation spikes were discovered.
However the company had hundreds of workers tested and all have come in well below the regulatory limit according to Bruce Power officials.
Later this month — Bruce Power is scheduled to report to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission on the alpha radiation issue.
