Some great news for the Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound….
Prime Minister Steven Harper says the deadline for the federal government’s economic stimulus plan is being pushed back to next October.
The new deadline is October 31st, 2011 — instead of the end of March.
The Chair of the Regional Rec Centre Steering Committee, Jim McManaman, is praising our Bruce Grey Owen Sound M-P for pushing to get the funding deadline extended.
He also congratulated members of council and the outgoing Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners for taking a chance on the project when it looked like they could lose out on the Federal money.
McManaman says they are still under a tight time-line to get the 38.6 million dollar project completed.
The Regional Rec Centre is of course under construction, and McManaman says there have been no big surprises lately that would either delay construction or add to the cost.
Mayor-elect Deb Haswell is pleased to hear of the Federal stimulus deadline extension.
Haswell echoed the words of McManaman saying the MP Larry Miller deserves a lot of credit for pushing to get the deadline moved from March to October next year.
