Tragedy in Lake Rosalind following a single engine plane crash.
At 12:15 PM Sunday — witnesses observed a small orange 1979 Zen Air Zenith plane crash into Lake Rosalind about 40 feet from shore in 15 feet of water
South Bruce OPP Staff Sergeant Paul Bradley tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the plane sank immediately.
The lone male pilot — a 72 year old man — was taken to Hanover Hospital with vital signs absent where he was later pronounced dead.
At this point police are not releasing much information about the pilot other than the fact he is not from this area.
Its believed he took off from Stoney Creek and was heading to the Saugeen Municipal Airport when the crash occurred.
No word yet what caused the crash but Transport Canada has been called in to investigate.
The Owen Sound Fire Departments dive team and Hanover Fire Departments Water Rescue team worked all afternoon to retrieve the plane.
Its a very somber mood at the lake as residents come to terms with the tragedy.
The small two seater plane will be secured in a hanger at the Saugeen Municipal Airport, awaiting inspection by Transportation Safety Board officials on Monday morning.
The Ministry of Environment has also been notified due to the small amount of fuel and oil spill that occurred at the time of the crash.
Bradley commends Fire and Police Emergency crews for the team effort.
Its been a collaborated effort from the South Bruce OPP, Hanover and West Grey Police as well as the Bruce County EMS and the Owen Sound and Hanover Fire Departments.
