The Festive RIDE program is now underway and police forces across the province warn you not to drink and drive.
Last year, the OPP checked 1.2 million vehicles during the five week program and they charge 299 people with criminal code alcohol-related offences.
That number in 2009 was down from 319 the year before.
Western Region OPP Inspector Mark Wright says officers also laid over 51 hundred other driving related charges during the RIDE program in 2009.
Wright says they are aiming for zero tolerance and people should think before they drink and drive, that they will likely get caught.
As of December 1st, 2010 a new law goes into effect where if you test at .08 or higher, or if you refuse to take a breathalizer — your car will be impounded on the spot for 7 days.
In August, another law also went into effect for drivers under 21.
They must have a zero blood alcohol content regardless of the class of drivers licence they have or their licence will be suspended for 24 hours.
