The Ontario Provincial Polices festive RIDE program begins today.
OPP Constable Joanna Van Mierlo says the campaign will run through December and finish on January 2nd.
She says there’s been some recent changes to driving laws that drivers will have to keep in mind this year.
Van Mierlo says starting December 1st, if you fail to comply with a roadside blood alcohol test or if you’re over the legal limit of point-zero-eight, then officers will impound your vehicle for seven days along with a license suspension.
She says drivers under 21 years old must have zero blood alcohol regardless of their license class or they’ll face a 24-hour suspension.
Van Mierlo says officers will be out in full force during the holiday season to cut back on the amount of impaired drivers.
She says they don’t want to stop people from having fun over the holidays, but plans need to be in place so people don’t get behind the wheel while impaired.
