Two former West Hill Secondary Students in Owen Sound have won a national video competition.
When the two discovered a Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) contest on-line, they only had a couple of weeks to put something together.
George Woodhouse and David Lawless put together a two minute video on “Gros Morne” National park in Newfoundland, called “Tales from da Trailz”.
Woodhouse wrote the lyrics to the rap video and Lawless provided video from a recent trip the National Park.
Amazingly, Woodhouse has yet to visit Gros Morne himself.
While George Woodhouse is studying at Dalhousie University in Halifax, David Lawless is at the University of Guelph.
The two collaborated on the video thru the internet, with Woodhouse writing lyrics and video-taping himself around Halifax and then sending the files over the internet to Lawless who combined the work with his raw footage.
Woodhouse says 90 videos were submitted and there were seven thousand votes cast for the winning entries.
Their video took top prize, which is a week long trip to the NWTs Nahanni River in Canadas third-largest national park.
Co-incidentally, second prize in the video contest went to Rachel Henderson of Stratford who focused on the Bruce Peninsula National Park.
