A great honour has been awarded to an Owen Sound Nurse who feels it all starts with caring.
Susan Dixon has been in nursing for eight years, the last seven of which has been at Lee Manor in Owen Sound.
Dixon was recently given an award for excellence in nursing by the Ontario Long Term Care Association during their gala luncheon
She feels the award is a great privilege just to be nominated, let alone awarded.
Dixon is not only a Registered Practical Nurse but also coordinator of the RYE program.
She explains the Rye Program is a computerized management assessment tool that was implemented into Lee Manor last August.
Dixon has managed the staff for training on the program, adapting to each of their learning strengths and changing the program training procedures to suit each staff member.
Nursing all begins with caring is how Dixon explains her philosophy for her love of caring for the aged and says she sees herself doing no other career.
The award is 25 hundred dollars which Dixon plans to further her nursing education with.
As to the level of importance of the award, Dixon explained the award to her husband and children as the Hiesman Trophy of Nursing.
