The Grey North Bruce Chapter of MADD Canada has launched its 23rd annual Project Red Ribbon campaign.
Local volunteers will be handing out red ribbons until January 3rd — with volunteers handing out ribbons at the Owen Sound Walmart until Sunday.
In addition to that, volunteers will also be accepting donations as each Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter relies strictly on local donations to fund awareness programs.
President of the Grey North Bruce Chapter Sharon-Lee Wideman was on hand for the official launch at the Owen Sound Walmart location.
Wideman lost her son in a car crash caused by a drunk driver and has since dedicated her life to promoting sober driving.
Wideman says they hold their red ribbon campaign during the holiday season as it is a time of celebration for many people.
She adds the red ribbon serves a reminder to always have a designated driver if you’re attending any function involving alcohol.
Wideman says MADD is always looking for volunteers.
