It is their golden anniversary — opening with recreation in mind in Owen Sound.
The Owen Sound Little Theatre is opening up their 50th year tonight with their rendition of “Hello Dolly”.
But the President of the Owen Sound Little Theatre — Bill Murphy — says this evening opening night is the first time the Theatre will have held it as a fundraiser.
All funds tonight will go towards the building of the new Owen Sound Regional Rec Centre at Victoria Park.
Murphy says the Rec centre is a much needed facility in the city that will benefit all residents of Grey Bruce so there has never been a better time for the theatre to team up to hold a fundraiser.
Murphy says this shows that all organizations can stick together to make a difference in the community — with this fundraiser the theatre has teamed with the Owen Sound YMCA.
As for the production — Murphy says this show is sure to please everyone with fantastic singing and dancing.
He says no matter what the economic times — the theatre has continued to thrive for 50 years and he sees no problem with it continuing for another 50.
In this year they hope to pay off their mortgage on the Roxy Theatre in the City as well as seek their first year under guidance of their new manager Aly Boltman.
Hello Dolly runs until the end of the month running Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s at the Roxy Theatre in downtown Owen Sound.
