A top fundraiser for the Owen Sound MS Walk is disillusioned with the Society and has cut ties with the organization.
Warren Bazinet was the Chair of the Owen Sound MS walk from 2007 to 2010, but he has now resigned and is highly critical of the charity for refusing to study a new “liberation treatment”.
Bazinet plans on going to Rhode Island to get the controversial treatment himself, on November 22nd.
It will cost 15 to 20 thousand dollars.
Along with being the chair of the local MS walk, Bazinet was the Team Captain for his team “Freedom 55 Financial”, which raised over 100 thousand dollars for the MS Society over the years.
Bazinet cannot understand while the Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Society told the Federal government not to go ahead with clinical trials of the controversial treatment.
Italian Specialist, Doctor Paolo Zamboni, believes that blocked veins in the neck and chest could be contributing to the disease by not allowing blood to drain properly from the brain.
A preliminary study published late last year, found that opening these veins with a balloon improved MS symptoms and reduced new attacks.
Bazinet says a lot of people feel the pharmacutical industry is forcing MS Canada to oppose clinical trials, fearing a major loss of income from drug sales.
He says no one who was involved in fund raising in the last 10 years in Owen Sound, will be in the MS walk next year.
