Improvements to Port Elgin’s waterfront are starting to take shape.
Community Services Director Mike Myatt says they’re seeing great success with the dune grasses that have been planted and growing for the past three or four years.
He says a new garden was also put in this year, along with an irrigation system, and new signage, and newer seating benches on the way next spring.
Myatt says a few more garden plots will be going in, starting on Wednesday.
Myatt says it was so important to get the dune grasses planted, because they are helping with the erosion of beach sands.
He says there is much less sand from the beach blowing into neighbouring yards, or out into the harbour.
From a maintenance standpoint, he says it’s a great result.
Myatt is also pleased about the community involvement, as he says several high school students are very involved in the planting to transform the waterfront.
