You may not know this — there are many soldiers who served in the First and Second World Wars who are buried here at home.
Bruce County Library director Marzio Apolloni says many people think Canadian war heroes were buried overseas.
But he says they have come to find out that some of war heroes are buried in a local cemetery.
Apolloni notes tragically — their names would not be found on the Vimy Ridge memorial, Juno Beach or the Airman’s memorial in Malta.
Apolloni says 48 such armed forces personnel are buried here in Bruce County.
He says the library system has prepared a listing of those names so they too can be remembered.
It’s all part of the project to gather the names of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in serving their country and their county.
The names are now available through the website www.bruceremembers.org
Apolloni says it’s important our communities know that their sons and daughters are with us now and to provide citizens an opportunity to honour them in their own way, knowing they are here in Bruce County.
