Foundation work will begin soon on a new 20-million dollar medical clinic on the west side of the Owen Sound Harbour.
Conditional site plan approval was given on Monday by city council for the clinic, which is being built on three acres of waterfront land north of the Marine and Rail Museum for the Owen Sound Family Health Team.
Council also approved a conditional foundation permit, subject to the satisfaction of the city’s chief building official.
This will enable developers Amico Properties to begin driving piles into the ground to stabilize the building.
Amico Vice President Cindy Prince says the ongoing environmental cleanup of the site should be completed by the end of next week and foundation work will begin immediately.
Prince expects the entire project to be finished within a year.
The site will have three entrances along with an exit aligned with the intersection of 1st Avenue West and 14th Street West.
Traffic signals will be installed at that location.
The 80 thousand square foot, three-storey building will mainly be occupied by the Family Health Team, including the practices of 18 family physicians.
But almost half of the facility will be available for lease.
Prince hopes other medical professionals will take advantage of the space.
Prince says Amico is excited to be part of an ongoing revitalization of Owen Sound’s waterfront.
