17 heritage homes and businesses in Brockton opened their doors to the public in a Doors Open event in the fall.
And Brockton’s Doors Open event is being hailed a huge success.
Over 29 hundred people participated in the self guided tours through a number of historical buildings, residential homes and structures of significance.
Organizer Ted Cobean says 74 per cent of the participants lived within half an hour of Brockton.
He notes the remaining 26 percent came from outside the area — including some from as far away as Ottawa, Illinois and Belgium.
Cobean says the numbers suggest almost 18 thousand dollars was generated in local economic spin offs.
Cobean admits it was a massive undertaking that involved 100 volunteers and 838 volunteer hours.
But he says the event showcased Brockton’s beautiful heritage and also provided local merchants with a financial boot.
Cobean says the Brockton Heritage Committee plan to host this event again in 2012.
With over 250 Heritage designations in Brockton, Cobean adds it won’t be hard to come up with a list of homes and businesses to showcase.
