Saugeen Shores councillors got a look at the potential future of it’s parks and recreational needs over the next 12 years.
A Monteith Brown Planning Consultants report paints an aggressive picture of future needs.
Anand Desai told councillors Monday night, his group sees the development of a 46-acre sports field complex that would house two soccer pitches and one multi-purpose field, along with five ball diamonds and a community event space to become to such things as the annual Pumpkinfest event.
Desai says their conclusions are based on interviews with 16 different sports and cultural groups in the town.
He says to date the town has done a good job of providing parks for the population but as the population grows, town recreational needs will grow too.
Desai didn’t say where this sports field complex would be but hinted that the town could have land for it or there is land available from private concerns.
Councillors Diane Huber and Victoria Serda were concerned that with such an important subject, a public input meeting wasn’t held.
Huber says the public should have a say in the future.
Serda says the town tends not to ask the community for their ideas on issues such as this and she believes the information would have been valuable for the consultants to include in their report.
Town administration will be back to council early next year as to where the town goes with the report next.
