After 20 years in the current building, St. John Ambulance in Hanover will soon have a new home.
The 400 thousand dollar facility will be located across the road from the current St. John Ambulance building.
The five thousand square foot training centre will be 50 per cent larger than the current home and boast three ambulance bays, which is one more than the current building.
75 per cent of this cost will be covered by the Hanover Raceway which plans to construct a 500 seat community banquet hall on the site of the current facility.
St. John Ambulance is responsible for the remaining 100 thousand dollars, and officials hope to fundraise for that total.
Branch Manager Kathy Murphy Ermel says the Hanover Raceway expansion provided St. John Ambulance with a unique opportunity to grow.
She says the larger facility will enable the organization to meet the growing demand for health and safety training as well as enhance their support for volunteers.
Ermel hopes they can raise money from across Grey Bruce.
Along with First Aid Training, St. John Ambulance also provides communities with Medical Fist Responders and Dog Therapy to shut ins and those who are ill.
The new St. John Ambulance training facility and administrative centre will complete by July 1st.
Interestingly enough, the last time a new St. John Ambulance facility was constructed in Ontario was 20 years ago and that was the Hanover building.
