A 48 year old Hamilton man is facing charges after a chase with Saugeen Shores Police.
Police say the pursuit happened just after midnight Wednesday, when they were initially investigating a report of suspicious persons in Port Elgin.
A vehicle left the area, and an officer tried to stop it to investigate the people inside, but the car took off.
Police gave chase with lights and sirens as the driver continued to flee, failing to stop for stop signs and driving well above the speed limits.
The chase was given up, police say, out of concern for public safety.
The vehicle was later found, abandoned, on the side of the road with the key in the ignition.
Police searched the area and found the man, arrested him and took him into the police office for breath tests.
He’s now facing charges of impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police.
