It’s hard to believe we are less than a month away to the lighting of the Festival of Northern Lights in Owen Sound.
Festival Chair Doug McKee says while we see the light displays slowly being assembled in the city the need for volunteers still there.
McKee says there are basically two areas where they are still looking for volunteers.
The one is to man the entrance “hut” at Harrison Park.
McKee says its basically just accepting peoples donations for about 3 hours, and he says you get to meet not only your neighbours but people from all over.
McKee says the booth is heated and time passes very quickly.
The other place they need volunteers is over night security during the weekends and then the last two weeks of the festival over Christmas school break.
McKee says the law and security students from Georgian College are covering the other shifts.
McKee says that job basically entails bundling up and strolling through the downtown displays, no isolated trips through the park though.
He ensures the job is safe, just odd overnight hours.
